Students to present capstone research projects
Students in the Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, or NRES, secondary major capstone course will discuss findings from their semester-long interdisciplinary research projects from 9:40-11:30 a.m. Monday, May 6, in Room 41 of Waters Hall.
Student researchers this semester come from nine different majors within the colleges of Architecture, Planning, & Design; Agriculture; Arts and Sciences; and Engineering.
Four projects will be presented in both seminar and poster formats, including "Perceptions of Green Spaces and their Connection to Volunteerism," "The Effects of Agricultural Runoff on the Kansas River Water Quality," "Unveiling Socio-Environmental-Economic Influences within Young Adult Outmigration from Rural Kansas," and "Water Nutrient Flux Across Lower Order Streams in Watersheds with Diverse Land Uses and Variable Saturation Levels."
Students were mentored this semester by Sarah Jackson, associate professor of horticulture and natural resources; Jeeban Panthi, NRES graduate fellow in biological and agricultural engineering; Aleah Quearns, NRES graduate fellow in biology; and and Bijan Gurung, NRES graduate fellow in horticulture and natural resources.
The presentations are open to the public. Undergraduate students interested in natural resources, environmental science and sustainability issues are especially encouraged to attend. The NRES secondary major is open to all Kansas State University students and is supported by the College of Agriculture, College of Arts and Sciences, biological and agricultural engineering department, and geography and geospatial sciences department.
